For your holidays in Haute-Loire, discover the massif of Meygal and the sucs.
The land of Sucs*, Loire and massif of Meygal is situated at about 20 km away from Le Puy-en-Velay! Many possibilities of hikes will offer you remarkable views on this unusual volcanic territory.
Some routes will lead you at the water’s edge with the Loire, L’Ance or even the Sumène, or also to the visit of a striking heritage near the castle of Artias, the chapel of Glavenas or the village of Monedeyres.
A selection of some not-to-be-missed routes:
- Le Tour d’Artias (very easy, 2 km, around 45 minutes): at the heart of the gorges of Loire, you’ll enjoy an outstanding 360 degree panorama in a universe of old stones.
- Autour de Monac (easy, 10.2 km, around 3 hours): a walk to discover the panoramas and little path around the steep suc (volcanic dome) of Monac, which overlooks the landscape.
- Peylenc (medium, 10.2 km, around 3 hours): a stroll following a river dominated by the volcanic hillock of Peylenc and Eynac.
- Le Tour du Meygal (hard, 13.7 km, around 4h10): a walk in the centenarian woods of the Meygal, with, fermata, the 360 degree panorama from the Testavoyre at 1436 meters of height (pronounced [tɛstauɛʀ’]).
